There are many positives to being able to access
group health benefits. New York can be an expensive place to live, so this could be one way of getting good coverage without it breaking the bank. However, it is just as important to make sure you are as fully aware of what this insurance offers as you would be if you were buying your coverage as an individual.

When we get busy and have to think of managing a lot of different things, it can be all too easy to take the simple way out and assume that because the company you work for is offering the coverage, you don’t need to do anything except sign up. As long as you’re a healthy individual who rarely needs to see a doctor, you may get away with that.
Think about it, though - would you do that if you were out there buying the insurance in the usual way? Probably not! You would be talking to your insurance agent or sitting down to compare different companies’ coverage against the price of the premiums so you had enough information to make an educated and cost effective decision.
Your company may well be offering a very
reasonable deal with their
group health benefits. New York employees however, should always make sure they know what they are covered for and what is excluded under the plan.
